May Day

Each year on the first Saturday in May the little elementary school in my hometown hosts a May Day parade.  After the parade is over the third graders put on a May pole dance.  My niece will be doing the May pole dance this year, holding colored streamers that weave into a braid around the pole as the dancers circle the pole.

The year that my grade did the May pole dance, the pole was stolen by some boys and hidden so no one could find it.  We had to do our dance just holding loose trailing ribbons that didn’t attach to the pole, lol.  Needless to say, ever since that year they have not left the pole unattended before the show.  I hope my niece has a fun time.  Happy May Day weekend!
